Where the Grill Press really comes into its own is in the creation of a smash burger. Set your EGG for direct cooking at 200°C. Lightly oil a heated griddle or plancha. Shape your minced beef into loose balls, place on the hot surface, then push down on the Grill Press until a thin patty is formed. Make sure you get the purchase needed to create a caramelised layer on the bottom, and only turn each patty once. The result: perfectly crispy edges and a lovely juicy centre.

The Big Green Egg Cast Iron Grill Press is a simple, practical and highly durable tool for making smash burgers, creating sear marks on steaks or seafood, applying pressure to a panini or cheese toastie, or stopping thinly sliced meats such as bacon from curling as they cook. Its heavy-duty enamelled cast iron plate distributes heat evenly, while the cool-grip spiral handle makes it safe and comfortable to use.
